Forgive Those That Trespass Against Us
At the beginning of the biblical story of Genesis, we have a conflict. God ask Adam and Eve to do one thing, do not eat from the tree in the middle of the Garden. Of course, God did not forewarn them of the serpent and the beautiful red apple that was very pleasing to the eyes. The same holds true today, it's easy for God or parents to say "do not", with the understanding that they are preventing a chain reaction of circumstances in the future. Although, I still have this question as to why the red apple? why was this tree with this good looking fruit, planted smack in the middle of existence? Being at the end of 2017, that tree has grown to many trees of temptation that reads "do not" but we continue to disobey and that chain of reaction keeps growing into the wilderness.
Therefore, the one cure to slow down our own acts is forgiveness. Forgiving is very difficult and the more we soak in hate, fear and disappointment, we get to a point of not forgiving, including forgiving ourselves. Allow me to let you in on a little story, being African American in this world today is tough and unforgiving. Yes, unforgiving because I have never witness anything so cruel in life, over the last two years. A young man was shot by the police and there on social media, news and everywhere, blood is pumping out of this man's body and his body shaking, until the last draw of breath is gone. Then the cops yell out, shots being fired. Well, yes shots were fired, from their guns into this man's body. To actually see a man's life taken away on display, was the last straw for me. I was angry with the world, those cops, our system, church and everybody. I cried out to God, why, why, why and right at that moment, my mind release this powerful phrase, "forgive those that trespass against us?
I wanted to stay angry and I did, but that one piece of thread from the "Our Father" prayer, continue to bring to mind the power of forgiveness. If we ever want to get off this merry go around, we must begin the process of forgiveness. Why the red apple? Because, God too had to begin somewhere, to forgive us and lead by example. His spirit showed us that as humans, we will mistakes but it's not the end of the world. We can forgive and move on with our lives and enjoy the freedom, by freeing ourselves and our enemies. Every time I write on this subject, my soul continue to heal from the woes of the world and bring in a spark of light, in my own tunnel of darkness.
I have not forgotten you, Season Greetings and may the Lord bring you Joy and Peace, to end the year in harmony.
